Money Follows the Person |

|
Ohio was one of 17 states to receive funding for the “Money Follows the Person” demonstration project (awarded in January 2007) enacted by Congress as part of the Federal Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. Ohio will receive up to $100 million in enhanced federal matching funds over five years. These funds are to be used to relocate approximately 2,200 seniors and persons with disabilities from institutions to home and community based settings, and to help Ohio balance the long term service and support structure. Total funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to all states was $888 million. Ohio’s award was the third largest following only Texas and California.

SENATE BILL 47 County Board Membership reintroduced |
|
|
|
State Sen. Eric Kearney of Cincinnati has re-introduced SB 47 that will reserve two membership slots on local county boards of DD: one to be dedicated for a person eligible for services, and a second to be dedicated for an immediate family member of a person eligible for services.
The Arc Hamilton County is very much in support of this legislation and encourage you to Contact your State Senators and Representatives to urge them to support this legislation.

Issues with Ohio Dept. of DD Proposed Budget |

Below is a snyopsis of the Proposed Ohio Dept of DD Services Budget.
One area of concern is the proposed idea of increasing the number of beds in a supported living enviornment from 4 to 5 non related individuals.
· Provides that in a community living arrangement certified DD personnel who are not health professionals may be authorized to provide certain health-care services to not more than five, rather than not more than four, individuals with a developmental disabilities.
· Provides that under the Supported Living program an individual with a developmental disabilities may reside in a residence of the individual's choice with up to five, rather than up to four, other individuals with a developmental disability who are not the individual's relatives.

State Gets Federal Approval For Medicaid Buy-In Program For Working Disabled Citizens
Advocates for the disabled scored a victory Friday when Ohio received word that the federal agency overseeing Medicaid had approved a long-sought buy-in program. Under the program, working disabled citizens pay a premium into the entitlement. The arrangement allows them to keep jobs and make advancements without the threat of exceeding the Medicaid income limits and losing health coverage. Ohio’s plan was enacted last spring with the biennium budget plan (HB 119).
